Enhancement of Chondrogenesis in Hypoxic Precondition Culture: A Systematic Review

BACKGROUND: Cartilage tear has begun to be treated with stem cells. However, cell oxygen level culture not been evaluated for the best environment enhance chondrogenesis. AIM: The purpose of this review is focus on hypoxic cells as a treatment cartilage tear. METHODS: A literature search was systemically conducted PubMed (MEDLINE), OVID, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, Scopus, Web Science, Science Direct, Wiley Online Google Scholar, and bibliography selected articles terms (“culture”) AND (“stem cell” OR “mesenchymal “MSC”) (“hypoxic” “hypoxia”) (“cartilage” “chondro*”) main keywords. total 438 were reviewed. Thirty-six considered relevant systematic review. RESULTS: result supports stimulation effects in chondrogenesis process. Most studies used 5% concentration culture, both vivo vitro studies. Due heterogeneity nature included studies, meta-analysis unable conducted. CONCLUSION: Hypoxia state seems play an important role chondrocytes proliferation, differentiation, matrix production.
